DOH Clarifies: No Lockdown Despite Surge in Influenza-Like Illnesses

The Department of Health (DOH) has officially denied rumors of a nationwide lockdown, following reports of a sudden rise in influenza-like illnesses (ILI) across different regions of the Philippines.

According to the DOH, while hospitals have observed a higher number of flu-related cases, the situation remains under control and does not warrant lockdown measures similar to those imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are monitoring the situation closely. There is no reason to panic and definitely no plans for any lockdown,” the DOH spokesperson emphasized.

The agency clarified that the increase in cases is seasonal, often linked to weather changes and lower temperatures, which typically lead to a spike in common colds, cough, and flu.

🧬 DOH’s Key Reminders:

  • Get vaccinated against influenza and COVID-19 boosters if eligible.

  • Stay hydrated and maintain a healthy diet to strengthen immunity.

  • Wear masks in crowded or enclosed spaces if you have symptoms.

  • Seek medical advice early to avoid complications.

Meanwhile, local government units have been encouraged to ramp up health campaigns in schools and workplaces to prevent further transmission.

⚕️ The Bottom Line

The DOH assured the public that there is no cause for alarm. Authorities are focusing on preventive care and public education, not lockdowns. The public is advised to remain calm, stay informed, and practice proper hygiene to reduce the spread of illnesses.
